About this tool
Compress PDF rebuilds the document with object streams. That can drop unused objects. It does not rasterize pages, so already-optimized or image-heavy files may barely shrink — or even grow slightly.
How to use
- Add a PDF.
- Compress.
- Compare sizes, then download if the rebuilt file is useful.
Formula and methodology
Pages are copied into a new PDFDocument and saved with useObjectStreams. No pixels are recompressed.
Worked example
A PDF exported with verbose metadata often loses some kilobytes. A scan that is already a compressed JPEG stream may not get smaller.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my file get larger?+
Rewriting can add structure. This tool reports that honestly instead of pretending every PDF will shrink.
Are files uploaded?+
No.
