About this tool

The compressor redraws your image onto a canvas in the browser and exports JPEG at the quality you choose. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use

  1. Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP file on the uploader.
  2. Adjust quality and optional max width.
  3. Compress, compare file sizes, then download the JPEG.

Formula and methodology

The browser’s canvas encoder produces JPEG at the selected quality (0.1–1.0). Width is scaled down if it exceeds the max-width cap; height follows the original aspect ratio. Size reduction = (original − compressed) ÷ original.

Worked example

A 4.8 MB PNG screenshot compressed at 70% quality and 1920px width often becomes a few hundred kilobytes, depending on detail and transparency flattened onto JPEG.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded?+

No. Processing stays in your browser. We never need the file on a server.

Why might the file get larger?+

An already-small JPEG recompressed at high quality can grow slightly. Lower the quality or max width if that happens.
