How to Calculate Zakat
AllinOne Editorial · Published 2026-09-06 · Updated 2026-09-16
The arithmetic is simple. Whether an asset is zakatable, and which nisab you use, is a fiqh question — not something a webpage should invent.
Many Muslims calculate Zakat on cash, savings, gold, silver, investments and trade goods at 2.5% once wealth has stayed above nisab for a lunar year. This article describes the arithmetic in the Zakat Calculator — not a personal ruling.
The sum
Add zakatable assets. Subtract debts you are allowed to deduct. If the net amount is positive, multiply by 0.025. That is the number the tool shows as Zakat due.
Nisab
Nisab is the minimum threshold. A common gold nisab is 87.48 grams and a common silver nisab is 612.36 grams. The calculator can turn those weights into money if you type today’s price per gram. It will then tell you whether net wealth meets that gold or silver value. It does not choose which nisab your school of thought prefers.
Ask a knowledgeable person about your own assets (retirement accounts, owed salaries, jewellery you wear). The tool will not classify those for you.
