A WiFi QR code is convenient and also a printed password. Generate it locally and hang it where you trust the viewers.

Phones that understand the WIFI: format can join a network from a QR code without typing the password. The usual payload looks like WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:secret;; — security type, SSID, password.

How to make one here

  1. Open the WiFi QR Generator (or the WiFi type on the full generator).
  2. Enter the exact SSID, including capitals and spaces.
  3. Choose WPA/WPA2, WEP, or no password.
  4. Add the password if the network has one. Generation stays on this device.
  5. Download only after the scan check passes.

Safety

  • Anyone who sees the printout can join as if they knew the password.
  • Do not email a WiFi QR for a sensitive office network unless you would also email the password.
  • Hidden networks still include the SSID in the payload; hiding the name is not encryption.
